Who is Pryme Minister???
Pryme Minister is most definitely a breath of fresh air to the hip hop community. With his flawless flow, vintage street tales with a seamless blend of apocalyptic insight, each song is a unique experience for fans. P.M. is hip hop’s newest truth teller, a true artist born out of the struggle with a message for the world inter-woven into the fabric of each verse.
Born and raised in Hartford Ct, PM was introduced to poverty and violence from day one living in the housing projects. As a kid he was angry and often mis-understood and though he came from a home with a lot of love, he stored much of his pain in places people couldn’t see. By the age of 9 he took an interest in an emerging art form that was popular only in the ghettos of America “hip hop”.
Due to his anger problems PM often got into trouble in school for fighting. When his mother found out she would punish him for weeks at a time in his room with no TV, all he had was the radio. While under house arrest (punishment) he would hone his writing skills by formulating verses. By the time PM reached high school he perfected his craft and was popular in his neighborhood for his street smarts and rapping skills. “Music was my escape from the streets, it wasn’t about fame or fortune it was my passion” says PM. Many who knew PM confirmed that “he was extremely lyrical and advanced for his age”. By the time he turned 16 he earned comparisons to some of hip hops legendary mc’s such as Nas, Rakim and later Black Thought.
PM had several close brushes with death as a youngster caught up in the street life, “the craziest things would happen and it seemed like God was protecting me…I used say to myself I should be dead” says PM. Always reading and inquisitive about the purpose of life he struggled within for understanding. Surrounded by crime, drugs and gangs only furthered his confusion. He began a quest for Truth, a life-long journey to discover what is life and who is this God? “Sometimes at night I would be hustling and when nobody was around I would think to myself what am I doing?” Later in life PM testifies that he had a powerful revelation of God. “I was at a church service listening to the Word and for some reason it all just made sense….I felt like the man who said I was once blind…but now I see”. PM explains the experience like this “at that moment I immediately understood sin, war, pain and God’s love for humanity…” His passion to know God was a hundred times more powerful than his passion for music. “I just wanted more Truth…you know how some people live to get money…well I just wanted more understanding”. Seeing the bigger picture he understood how he fell into the street life and how so many still fall prey to “the deception”. PM learned how to intertwine his two passions for God and music to create “Change Muzik”. PM says “this is not gospel rap and I’m not a gospel rapper…I make my music for the streets, I understand where they come from and how they feel…I relate to their struggle”.
