3dbs Down - Demo

Well, what can I say. First off I couldn't put this cd down - Its catchy tunes, lyrics and general sound just impressed me from start to finish. Many cds that I recieve are listenable but get boring after 5 or 6 plays, however 3dbs didn't.

The first track 'Magnificent Mediocre' in my opinion is the best on the cd. This is the track that I have on repeat time and time again, seeing as im a bit of a ska junkie. It has a nice ska riff in the verse which then breaks into a powerful chorus, which works really well I must say. The nice thing about this song is its extremely catchy and with the lyrics 'All my life Ive been waiting in the middle' (waiting for someone to correct me) you can't help but sing along. This is a brilliant track from the start and reminds me of bands such as 'Howards Alias' and even 'Spankboy' to a certain extent.

'Zoinks' is the second track on the demo, and is considerably less ska. This track is much more rock than anything else, but that doesn't make it any less good. Again theres catchy lyrics and a nice riff or 2 in there, as well as more prominent bass. The quiet part of this song is probably the best part of it in my opinion. The bass starting then the guitars coming in on top and finally building back up with a heavy riff and drums works spot on. If 3dbs Down can think of more riffs and structures like this they are certainly set to get a lot bigger.

The final song 'Nothing Compares' is a cover by Sinead O'Connor. This song has more ska in it, although not as much as the first track. This track starts a little weak, although it does build up and makes up for it. Its another feel good song and the good fast pase chorus makes it very listenable. This is probably my least favourite track on the album, but for the poorest song, it isn't half bad...

All in all this cd was an excellent demo. If the lads from 3dbs Down can keep producing music like this I wouldn't be suprised to see them as a big name. 3dbs Down could be one of the future names of British Ska...
