Review:
Initially the opening song - Screaming Lights' debut single, 'Phenomena' - makes little impression, the simple introduction consisting of nothing but an effortless bass line and drum beat. This bursts into an exhilarating combination of guitar, synth, thrashing drums, and bass. This song carries a basic verse, chorus, verse structure, with a breakdown at the end. It is undoubtedly an uplifting piece of music, in which this Liverpudlian four-piece blend together an excellent mash of instruments.
They continue to demonstrate their instrumental flair in 'Grandfather Clock' with a beautiful piano sequence leading this catchy song, in which vocalist Jay Treadell pours out lyrics with what sounds like an exceptional amount of ease.
This is a single of constant surprises, blending both rock music and rave, with their use of thrashing guitars and pumping synthesisers. GMN is a much more upbeat song, and just as pleasing on the ears. This band carries a sound of their own, merged with various genres of modern music; a voice comparable with that of indie-rock musicians, synthesisers sounding like they've just jumped from the speakers of a rave, pounding drums and rock guitars. All so gracefully combined, I can't help but wonder why they carry such a vicious sounding name.
For Fans Of...
Indie, rock, rave and pretty blonde guys.
