Review:
Although Storm Engine have no official releases on CD at the moment, being that they are an altogether completely new band (only 4 months old!) i was asked to review their songs on the myspace in an attempt to gain themselves some additional exposure. Naturally I was aprehensive...

I'll start with a breif overview:

In a musical world filled with clones and copycats we all often find ourselves wishing that someone, anyone, would come along and re-issue our trust in the creative and the innovative. We've all stood there bored out of our minds in grimy venues listening to a poor re-hash of 'The Kooks' or 'Funeral for a Friend' playing the same four chords over and over again. This depressing state of affairs causes my enthusiasm to drop somewhat when a band ask me to review their songs...

Now here comes the good part! Storm Engine stamp all over that last paragraph and then kick it in the face! From first to last I was captivated by their energetic and genuinely attention-grabbing mix of Funk, Rock, Trance, Prog and more, but especially excited at just how original they really are. Every song is unique and different and carries something memorable, be it the mood, theme, or a catchy or poignant vocal or riff. The Musicianship involved is staggeringly good. Each and every member of the band gets a chance to show off. Wayne's guitar is fully showcased in riff-heavy songs like 'This Town' and 'I'm Yours' whilst the basslines demonstrated by George in 'This Town' and 'Mandy Knows' show us all that bass players don't have to be background characters! Charlie's insane band persona and astounding drumming abilities give the band 'that edge' as he mixes it up with supportive but altogether unexpected drum licks and samples!

Now for the other 50 percent of the songs: The Vocals. Where most unsigned bands falter, Storm Engine once again rise over expectations producing energetic and tuneful vocals. George's smooth harmonies and high choruses are the perfect match for Ryan's quirky and powerfull vocal style. The combination of the two voices presents yet another selling point as they fully compliment each other, and one must listen to their songs using the link below to fully understand the sheer genious of the harmonies this band has to offer! With strong, catchy melodies and thoughtfully written lyrics, there isn't very much left to falter, and even if I could be bothered to dig up something to complain about the sheer delight attained from finding a band brave enough to push the barriers is enough to destroy my willingness to write it.

In conclusion I loved Storm Engine. Wholly Original, Entirely accessible, and the quality and production of the recordings is just the icing on a cake so surprisingly delicious that it's driven me to say: 'I'm no longer an abstainant reviewer culled into writing about Storm Engine... I'm a Fan'
