Review:
You Me At Six's debut album 'Take Off Your Colours' is something I have eagerly been awaiting for quite sometime now. After hearing a few of their demo tracks a year or so ago I could not wait to see what this band produced, and I equally could not wait to get my hands on it. Finally that day has arrived and Take Off Your Colours does not disappoint in the slightest. With a host of new songs and revamped demos this is one debut album that the masses of You Me At Six fans should gobble up whole.

Take Off Your Colours packs a punch, with the distinct yet oh so familiar sound of You Me At Six. People like me who have been wondering what this band can achieve in the space between releasing demo tracks and the actual album will be very pleased indeed. I must admit that on playing the first track 'The Truth Is A Terrible Thing', I was wondering if all my praise of You Me At Six was going to have to be retracted. On the first play I was slightly disappointed with the choice of album introduction, although that has changed massively the more I play it. Once you have played the album a few times round 'The Truth Is A Terrible Thing' is a catchy track that you instantly recognise as the start of Take Off Your Colours. Intricate guitar riffs, well placed beats, and a catchy chorus, what more could you ask for? The album then flows into the second and more well known track 'Gossip', which is already recognisable track with You Me At Six fans. This album really does have it all, tracks such as 'Gossip', 'Jealous Minds Think Alike', 'Save It For The Bedroom', 'You've Made Your Bed', and 'The Rumour' are the tracks that You Me At Six have built their fan base with and that already appeal to a large crowd. They have then injected an already cracking list with even more superb songs which will keep new and existing fans hooked forever. The tracks 'Take Off Your Colours', 'Always Attract', and 'Nasty Habits' are great examples of what You Me At Six are now achieving, and they really add such amazing depth which round this album off supremely.

All in all this album is one which has proved that You Me At Six really can produce music that is ongoing and not just a couple of 'remember us' tracks. Whilst this album is absolutely blinding it is not without fault. A few changes to the existing classics, such as Save It For The Bedroom, are not to my taste. The revamp of this track is superb and very much needed, but a few new twists such as "S-s-s-save it" in the last portion of the song led me to wonder if this was purposely planned, or a kept mistake? Other than the odd little twinge and tweak that is not too my taste, this album is wholesome goodness. The sort which is organically grown, and you don't mind paying that extra bit for.

So can the Surrey boys from You Me At Six become as big as other similar acts that have gone before them? Bands such as Funeral For A Friend, Lost Prophets, and Enter Shikari who exploded onto the scene and have gone from strength to strength, pop into my mind as good examples. Based on Take Off Your Colours, this reviewer thinks without a doubt, that You Me At Six are the next big thing.
