This was the first time that i have seen Bring Me The Horizon play live and ive got to say i was quite excited about seeing them as 'count your blessings', their debut album was full of some pretty good stuff!
We came in after the first band had played due to the tremendously long que! We came in half way through the set of 'Your Demise' (a hardcore band from London!) they already had the crowd going absolutely mental which is always good to see, they had obviously made a very good impact with the people there. Unfortunately the sound quality at the Astoria doesn't do many bands justice and the vocals on most of the bands that evening were very quiet! from what i saw of 'Your Demise' i would say that we will be seeing a lot more of them in the near future!
After moving up to the balcony to get a better view of things the second band came on ..'The Break In'..these guys were just as heavy as 'Your Demise' if not even heavier! i would have to say that apart from 'Bring Me The Horizon' these guys were the best band there! The crowd absolutely loved them and everything they did! they just looked like they had actually rehearsed what they were doing and hadn't just gone on stage and started screaming!! They obviously have accumulated a large fan base because a large portion of the crowd seemed to know every word! if you are a fan of hardcore or thrash metal i would definitely recommend 'The Break In'
OK...so...'Architects' (from Brighton) were the next band on..i have got to say that they just didnt interest me one bit , sorry if you are a fan but im afraid they were just dull and boring, samey and just uninteresting to watch!! i just felt that the voice didn't match the music, they had talent, but it just wasn't put together very well! but..thats just my opinion! there were obviously people there who were big fans of 'architects' but i wouldn't want to see them again!
And im afraid it's the same for 'The Chariot' really...the American hardcore band failed to please! i have no idea what was going on with the lead singer....he looked very confused!!!! i couldn't hear a word he was saying (this could have been due to the sound quality at the Astoria!) They just bored me really...there wasn't anything interesting about them at all.not forgetting how much the singer kept screwing up!.The vocals were weak ..very weak compared to the heavy riffs.i suppose im just not a fan of the high squeaky/screamy American voice! i wouldn't like to see them again lets put it that way! but in saying that parts of the crowd were loving them!!!..each to their own!
Bring Me The Horizon came on EVENTUALLY and i have got to say that they were great, they put on a really good performance (despite sound issues). Each one of them performed brilliantly, there is so much talent in this band, the vocals are amazing and the guitar riffs and solos are incredible to watch and listen to live! they created so much energy in the whole venue! over the past year they have obviously had great success not only over here but in America too and some bands can get sloppy after playing so many shows but i can't fault them in any way! obviously if your not a fan of hardcore metal or anything of the sort then it probably won't flick your switch but i would recommend to any one that hasn't seen them live or isn't sure if they like that kind of music to go, u will not be disappointed !
