Admittedly, much like a lot of people, the first ten minutes of Rob The Rich's set for me was spent outside in a queue. Once I'd made it through the chaotic systems laid out by the event organisers, I began descending the stairs into the Floral Hall. It was here I found a small, dispersed crowd gathered around the stage on which five Brighton boys were playing their indie-influenced set. I could hear them playing before I could see them, because not only did their contagiously up-beat music fill the hall, it flowed up the stairs, catching the attention of those now eager to get in.
They didn't have much to say to their minimal audience, and I feel their music spoke for itself tonight, but was helped greatly by the band's use of their limited space. Front man Adam danced so violently he proceeded to disconnect his microphone lead twice and throw water all over the stage. While his fellow band members jumped around their equipment, enjoying their own music.
I was fortunate enough to be there in time to witness their guitarist switch his guitar for a synthesiser in preparation for the song 'Bunkbeds', which I feel they played brilliantly. With it's wonderfully simple melody, and combined vocals, which Adam sung with such a beautiful amount of honesty, I found myself wanting to hear more and more of this charming music.
Towards the end, the crowd was clearly enjoying the music of this modest indie-pop band and a few members of the moderate crowd could be seen joining in with the chorus on their final song, 'Art Project'. Which no doubt was the most contagious song I heard all night, because it followed me around for quite some time, as a constant reminder of this ever auspicious band.
